More often than not, dental implants are the best treatment option for replacing missing teeth. Dental implants are long-term replacements, compared to removable dentures that rest on the gum or fixed bridges where one can use adjacent teeth as anchors. They look, feel and function like natural teeth. Twenty years ago, this alternative was not available. Luckily for you, the doctors at Florence Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery have extensive training in dental implant surgery and is more than capable to be able to complete your procedure successfully.
So, with all of that being said, are you a candidate for dental implants? Well, with the exception of growing children, there is a HIGH probability that there is a dental implant solution for you! The following health concerns do post certain risks, but that doesn’t mean you are not qualified to be a candidate:
Existing Medical Conditions – If you are a routine patient your local dentist’s office, there’s a very good chance that you will have no issues with a dental implant. Even patients with high blood pressure or diabetes are typically successful candidates for treatment.
Gum Disease / Problem Teeth – We have a very high success rate in patients who have lost their teeth to periodontal disease or tooth decay.
Partials / Dentures – Patients who are currently wearing dentures or partials are definitely candidates. Dental implants can replace removable bridges or can be used to stabilize the denture, which actually makes them much more comfortable.
Smokers – Smoking does lower the rate of a successful dental implant, but that does not eliminate those who smoke from getting them. Successful dental implants are a team effort considering follow-up examinations are critical as well as the aftercare.
